About Domicile Certificate
Residence certificate or a domicile Certificate is issued by a state government to prove that the person having the domicile certificate is a resident of that particular State or Union Territory as stated in the domicile certificate.

Domicile certificate is a document by which a person can avail various benefits like education, job and other benefits (resident quota in government service and educational institutions, and also in case of jobs where preference is given to local residents).

A woman who does not originally belong to a State or Union Territory but is married to a person who is a permanent resident of that particular State or Union Territory or, who (Man) is eligible for a domicile certificate of that State or Union Territory

Process to get Domicile Certificate
An applicant can obtain the application form either from the local authorities (Tehsildar's Office or Sub-Divisional Magistrate or District Collector's Office or Revenue Department or any other authorized authority in the State / UT).
Documents Required for Domicile Certificate
A domicile certificate is a certificate that can be issued under the rules and regulation of a state government. Therefore, an applicant is required to provide various documents depending upon the rules and regulation of a particular State or Union Territory.
Basically, the following documents are required to obtain a Domicile Certificate:-
- I. Two passport size photographs.
- II. Proof of residence such as ration card or driving license.
- III. Age proof like birth certificate, school certificate (10th admit card), etc.
- IV. Duly filled application form.
- V. Proof of Identity like Aadhar Card, Pan Card etc.
- VI. Self-declaration form.
- VII. Photocopies of all documents duly attested by a government official.
Affidavit for Domicile Certificate:
The applicant has to give an affidavit to obtain the residence certificate. In simple words, an applicant who is a permanent resident of a particular state or union territory and holds a valid proof of identity and residence can make an affidavit for domicile certificate.
Domicile certificate affidavit should include the details as given below:-
- I. Name, age and address of the applicant.
- II. Father's name or spouse's name and details (in case where the applicant is a married woman and not a permanent resident of the State in which she wishes to claim the domicile certificate).
- III. Exact period of stay of the applicant at the mentioned address (number of months/years).
- IV. A declaration by the applicant stating that the information given in the affidavit and all supporting documents are genuine.
- V. The purpose for which domicile certificate is required.
- VI. Sign of Applicant.
- VII. Date on which the affidavit is given.
