What is UPSC IES (Indian Economic Service) Exam
UPSC Indian Economic Service is the administrative inter-ministerial and inter-departmental civil service under Group A of the Central Civil Services of the executive branch of the Government of India.
The unique aspect of the service is that the cadre posts are spread across various departments and ministries of central government numbering more than 55. It is a highly specialized and professional service within the government of India catering to economic analysis and policy advice.

Exam Pattern of UPSC IES Exam
This exam consists in two parts-
Part I-
IES Written examination for 1000 marks divided across subjects mentioned below.
Part II-
Interview [Viva Voce] for 200 marks of candidates who will be shortlisted by UPSC.
Part I- Written Examination of UPSC IES/ISS
UPSC IES/ ISS Written exam would consist of the following subject. Maximum marks allotted to each subject and paper and the time allowed will be as follows-

Most Important Points and Instructions for UPSC IES (Indian Economic Service)
- UPSC IES Questions papers in all the subjects will be of conventional [Essay] type. All Questions will be in English and must be answered in English Language.
- Candidates need to answer the exam themselves and won't be allowed a assistant to write for Candidate. UPSC Notified, blind candidates will be allowed a scribe as well as an additional 30 mnts for each paper. Candidates with loco motor disability and cerebral palsy will also allowed an extra twenty minutes per paper.
- UPSC (Union public Service Commission) decides the qualifying marks for each paper.
- Marks may be deducted if your handwriting is not easily understood. No marks will be given for superficial (slight) knowledge.
- Candidates will allowed to use scientific, non-programmable calculators in examination center.
- You may use only the international form of Indian numerals (1,2,3,4) while writing in the exam.
Part II: Viva Voce Exam (Interview)
Candidates will be interviewed by a Board of qualified observers who will have before them a record of your career. Main object of the interview is to judge how suitable candidate are for the service for which you are competing Exam. UPSC IES viva voice exam/ oral interview will test General, Specialized knowledge and abilities of the candidate, in addition to the written exam.
